“The best way out of poverty is through nutrition, education, and employment”

Karin Hoole, Founder

A REACHING HAND is a charitable organisation based in Cape Town, South Africa. We rely on the generosity of individuals and companies to support children, youth, single mothers and families facing daily challenges in some of the most impoverished communities. Your donations provide practical support, create opportunities and help people move towards a more hopeful future. We recognise the human face behind poverty and respond with compassion, dignity and a commitment to meaningful change. Together with our community partners, we work to create positive and lasting change in the many lives we touch.

EDUCATION & LITERACY PROGRAMS

Our educational programs support children, youth and adults at different stages of their learning journey.

We support three Daycare Centers, providing care and early learning opportunities for approx. 200 children aged 0–6.

For students facing financial barriers, we provide practical support including books, transport, uniforms, internet access, technology and mentoring.

We believe education opens doors, builds confidence and creates opportunities for a brighter future.

NUTRITION PROGRAMS

With the support of our generous donors, we provide nutritious food, including fresh fruit and vegetables, to children, families and vulnerable members of our communities.

  • Community Food Garden
Supporting a local food garden with supplies, water and gardening resources to provide fresh produce for our programs.

  • Daycare Centers
Providing three nutritious meals each day to more than 200 children and caregivers across three Daycare Centers

  • Orphanage Food Support
Monthly food shops for the children at the Orphanage/Safe House, with additional food supplies provided during school holidays to ensure they continue to receive nutritious meals when school is closed.

  • Community Soup Kitchen
Providing soup ingredients, gas, electricity and essential supplies to a community soup kitchen serving more than 3,000 patients each month.

COMMUNITY-LED PROGRAMS

We believe lasting change begins within communities themselves.

Many of our programs have grown from the vision of local women who saw a need and chose to make a difference. We work alongside these community leaders, supporting their ideas and helping their programs grow.

Through long-term partnerships built on trust and shared responsibility, our donors help provide the practical support these initiatives need — from food and equipment to infrastructure, training and running costs.
